Based in beautiful and historic Richmond, Virginia, Within & Without is a literary magazine devoted to curating beautiful, meaningful writing that captures life’s beautiful ugly.

We’re looking for the writer who sees the extraordinary mundane and whose words dissolve the windows between the world and the observer and are excited to be a first home for debut authors. 

After working with so many unpublished and amateur writers, our founder, Gracie DeSantis, decided to set out and fill a forgotten niche in an oversaturated publishing world.

Together, with long-time wring compatriot-in-craft, Heather Curran, our humble magazine began to grow it’s roots.
